Let me tell you my experienece girlfriend. I had the Paraguard IUD for exactly 1 year. First 3 months I had some cramping and heavier bleeding than normal which was what I was told to expect. But then the spotting began, almost every day in between periods, this brown goopy discharge (it was gross). After several more months the doctor did an ultrasound and some blood work, and said everything was normal. Gave me a calendar to keep track of my period, the good, bad and ugly, for 5 months. On my one year anniversary of getting the IUD (today) I had it removed. The doctor had never seen anyone that had bleed that often with an IUD. I should have bought stock in Always feminine products.
Now I'm sure every woman has a different experience. I have a friend that has had the IUD for many years and does not experience any spotting, cramps or heavy periods. How lucky is she?
