Annie, I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at 44....through some research I was advised to see an endrocrinologist who then diagnosed me with celiac disease aka gluten intolerance, which causes nutritional deficiencies. My bones were not getting enough calcium due to the damage in the intestine caused by the celiac. I also did not have risk factors for osteo and was too young. And, I was asymptomatic for celiac..lots of people get sick from it, but I didn't. you might ask for a blood test for celiac disease. The good news is that if you have celiac, you can cure it with a gluten free diet. Not easy, but better than lots of things you can have. My bone density has gone up even though I went off fosamax for two years. I believe that is from my body now being able to absorb calcium. good luck! luanne
