I had my Paraguard IUD in 1989. Years passed and I totally forgot to remove it. Luckily, I wasn't pregnant again (have 2 grown up children now). I am now in my mid-50th and finally decided to have this IUD removed: unfortunately, my ob/gyn doctor told me the string is missing and couldn't locate the IUD. From the ultrasound, the IUS is still there, just need to take time to get it out. After a discussion with my doctor, I've decided to just leave it in there. After all, this IUD has made no problem for the past 20 years, why couldn't it stay there for another say 50 more years?
