I tried a thirty day fast with only a small glass of V-8 juice in the morning and another in the evening. I was 54 at the time. I continued to take blood pressure meds and an aspirin and a multi-vitamin every day. My experience was remarkable. I lost about 40 pounds (from 305 to 265). I had no negative effects at all. The first three days were HELL. But starting on the fourth day, it was like a "hunger switch" turned off and I had no hunger after that. I had interest in food, but only because it is a habit we get into. I would go to restaurants with my wife and just sip water and watch her eat and it didn't tempt me at all.My mental state was clear and lucid and physically I had more energy than before or after the fast. I had committed to going 30 days, but near the end of my fast I wanted so much to continue, but did not because I know that going beyond 30 days can be dangerous. When the time came to bgreak the fast, I just sat down at the table and stared at the food - it was just a cup of soup and a piece of bread - and wept because I did not want to eat it (I actually felt repulsed by it) but knew I must. Within 3 days my digestive system had become used to food again and I was eating normally. It was a great experience. The only hard part is to get started. Those first three days can be miserable, but then you-re over the hump.
