I think you have a good philosophy...

And I also think, myself, that there is some good news on the fast food front - in the last 5 years, I've seen a lot more health-supporting options in the fast food industry! No, the situation still isn't great, but it's definitely going in the right direction. I have seen several sandwich/salad places and Mexican places that don't use lard and have several veg options. A new deli just opened here last year that offers handmade Vegan breads, salad dressings, and Vegan uncheeses - among other things. There's even a pasta chain that just added whole-grain pasta as an option, and over half their entrees are made with no meat or dairy - you can add meat if you want to pay extra, or you can add tofu or extra vegetables! These stores are building new locations all the time up here, so the idea seems to be gaining ground.

It may depend on where you live, however. I now live in Denver, and while we have more than our fair share of McDonalds and BK, we also have all these other places. When I lived in the Deep South, however, I literally never went out to eat, fast food or otherwise, because I couldn't. There was one gourmet restaurant that had one Vegan dish, but at that time, I couldn't afford it - so only went when someone else was buying!
