We are fatter. One of the things that I noticed was in the low rider jeans that the young girls were wearing. In the mid 70’s, the young girls that wore the low rider jeans had flat stomachs and the jeans looked sexy. Girls who didn’t have the figure to pull them off, wore skirts or something else. In recent years I’ve seen lots of young women who are 10-80 pounds overweight wearing these low rider jeans that really accentuate the fact that they are overweight. But I guess people are used to seeing it now and it’s not such a big deal. I’ve never had the figure to wear them, but I think it’s interesting how we’re just getting used to seeing everyone overweight. But I’ll tell you something, it’s not just in the U.S. I recently saw a documentary about the tight economy in Japan and the number of 20 something kids who are out of school and out of work. Most of them were looking pretty chunky. I noticed because we often talk about the Japanese diet as an example of healthy low fat cuisine. But these kids had sodas and starbucks coffees in their hands.
