Every so often someone posts around here about eating at fast "food" restaurants, like "What's your favorite at Wendy's?" or "What can I order at Bob's Lardburger?" or "How's the food at [insert corporate transnational Republican-donor franchise here]." I can't even walk past one of these places without gagging on the smell permeating the immediate area. As a whole-foods vegan, don't many people lose their taste (and olfactory desire) for these places? I never ate fast food even before I was a vegan, and I can't even remember the last time I was inside one-maybe as a teenager or something. Environmentally, ethically, nutritionally, from the standpoint of workers' rights - you can't find a category in which these franchises won't be at the bottom of the list. And I can't imagine that they offer much in the way of healthy whole foods. Maybe one argument is convenience, but isn't it just as easy (and cheaper) to find a market nearby and buy a couple of pieces of fruit or whole-grain crackers? It just seems that if someone is disgusted with the meat and dairy industry, thinks the USDA is a crock, and believes that the SAD is a death sentence, wouldn't getting off the fast-food hook be one of the easiest steps to take to put your beliefs into practice?
