Well I am happy to see a general topic weightloss board. I hope it takes off and gains popularity. By way of introduction, I have been following a McDougall-type diet and lifestyle for the past 6 years, with a one year period in the middle I went off of it after getting married and having a child. Over the course of the these past 6 years, I have lost a combined total of 400 pounds, and a combined total of about 38 waist inches. I went from 340+ pounds to 190 pounds twice, in less than a year each time. I dropped my very high untreated high blood pressure from an average of 190/100 to 120/75 without medications. I did this by eating a very lowfat, pure-vegetarian diet with zero animal products. I do not call myself a 'vegan' though, because I do not eat this way based on any ethical reasons. I eat this way only for the health benefits. I eat about 75% veges, 20% whole grains, 5% fruits. I also aerobically excercise 6 days a week, for 45-90 minutes per day. Usually biking, backpack hiking, or fast 4.5 mph walking. I am currently 36 years old.
