Hi Beatrice, I just thought I'd share what the good Dr. Fuhrman said recently on the subject of cold cereals. Someone asked him whether Total was okay, or if he could recommend some other over the counter cereal instead, and here is what he said : "I advise strongly against such cold cereals, due to the dry heat process which removes almost all naturally occuring nutrients and produces acrylamides (cancer-causing). Instead, I advise eating the cardboard box the cereal comes in, it is more nutritious and is full of fiber." Dr. F. advises us to stick with whole, natural foods which have not been highly processed, and still retain the naturally occurring nutrients. Well, I guess you can tell which plan I follow ! There I go, giving it away again. I just can't seem to help myself. I was a big cold cereal eater most of my life, having it for breakfast most every day, but now I have gotten rid of that habit, and am doing much better with my new breakfasts. I used to get hungry again too quickly after breakfast. As a matter of fact, it seems like I used to pretty much be hungry and ready to eat 24/7 with the kinds of foods I used to eat before. I just ate way too much processed stuff, and not enough fruits and veggies. My standard winter breakfast these days consists of oatmeal made from steel-cut oats, with a half of a sliced banana, and 1/2 ounce of walnuts, along with a drink called "carrot-citrus cocktail", which I make in my vitamix using baby carrots, pineapple, lemon, and ice. It is a filling breakfast, and actually at this point I've lost all my weight, and I'm just working on maintenance. I am a very small person though, so what works for me to maintain my weight might be just fine for a larger person who is still trying to lose. I'm 4'11" and I think I weigh about 91 or so, although its been a couple weeks since I've had a chance to weigh myself. When I was losing weight, I used to just drink the carrot-citrus cocktail, and have a 1/2 ounce of nuts. The oatmeal was something I added later. Claudia
