for some reason the idea just appeals to me and i would love to do a 10 or 14 day water fast.
i have often, on sunday, water fasted and feel like i am doing good for me and because it is sunday, for the "lord", sort of...
so one day i was reading about fasting on the net and decided to see how long i could go.... no book, or anything.
i was shocked at how easy it was.... for some reason, drinking plain tap or filtered tap water, did nothing to curb my apetite, but if i drank out of a bottle of water that i bought, it was all i needed and could go on and felt no hunger. i have been vegan for almost 2.5 years and on the second day, if a cow would have walked in my office, i could have killed it with my bare hand and ate it.....except for the fact that i am vegan...and truly do not think that god wants us to kill and eat his creatures...
that thought prevented me from calling and ordering a burger.
and i was hungary for nothing else...very specific...not even a burger king burger, it was from "steak out" a place that delivers them..
so i did not get it and continued with my fast..(had my craving been some vegan food, i probably would have given in.)
i broke my fast while reading about it on the net on sunday afternoon. people scare you about needing a dr. subervision... so i stopped and ate soup... and ordered dr.furman's book from amazon. i am glad i did it. i did not quite complete 3 days. i went from friday at around 8am to sunday around 4 or so.
it really slowed down my eating...
dr.furman says that you can safely do a 3 day diet..longer than that you need medical supervision.
i worked while i was fasting and felt great...actually, i was surprised at just how much energy i did have....i always thought that i would die if i could not eat...
on the sundays that i have fasted, i started on saturday eve and ended on sunday eve... i found that best for me... otherwise, i would be waiting for the clock to strike midnite, so i could eat...
so i would eat a early meal on saturday before 4 or 5 pm and and then break my fast with a decent sunday meal after 4 or 5pm.
my friend was on a religious internet diet which called for juice days and half days, regular eating days and one fast day a week... it was pretty good, and i tried it.. the only problem with that diet was that you had to promise to exercise for 30 minutes a for 60 days and because it was a religious diet, you felt like you were promising "god" and could not break that promise...so i did it...30 minutes of exercise daily for 60 days...
but, burgandy, the 24 hour water fast is easy... you can do that without worry.
i really also appreciate ridgerunner's note.
hope this helps.
