I'm just getting started with McDougall, and have to confess that I've had at least a little cheat almost every day, which is no way to do it! I'm starting, today, to build a string of cheat-free days. I have 81 days until my next doctor appointment and my main goal is to try to get my triglycerides down. My other blood factors have been improving markedly (my LDL is just 15!) but my trigs have been skyrocketing. So, no more white flour and definitely no more nuts or candy. I really like the starch-based idea; giving up bread and potatoes, etc., has always been the hardest part of any diet I have tried to follow. Finding a plan that makes grains and potatoes the center of the diet still seems strange to me, but I'm learning to embrace it.
