When I first stopped eating meat I wanted a burger SOOOOO badly. But knew I didn't like meat at all. Finally decided it was all the stuff on it, so now I happily eat veggie sandwiches (sprouts and avocado and red pepper and cukes and on and on). And if I have a fake burger with ketchup and pickles and maybe tomato and onion and vegenaise I am one happy girl. Just like when I was a kid and ate all that - mainly for the ketchup and the pickles and the onion and tomato. Funny how we think we want something, but it really wasn't what we wanted at all. I confess to eating ketchup, mustard and pickle relish (and nothing else) sandwiches often as a kid - guess I was practicing for the rest of my life. And my mom was "progressive" and bought "wheat" bread at the store - maybe even with a little something in it. Unless of course I made it -- I started baking at a very early age(**), and had my own bread starter before I got out of high school. (** at two I was helping my Grandma make biscuits and rolls - I guess something stuck with me, because I love to cook)
