Hi, Cyn. I am a vegan for ethical reasons primarily. That is what brought me to veganism and keeps me there. Health and environmental reasons are also important, but secondary to me. For resources, I would suggest taking a look at some of my books, in particular The Vegan Sourcebook and Vegan Vittles. Just as there are infinite ways to eat as an omnivore, there are infinite ways to eat as a vegan. I know it can be confusing. I think anyone who is concerned about health and weight faces similar confusion, whether or not she is vegan. I have dabbled in raw and macrobiotics, which are almost polar opposites. I have also dabbled in oil-free and fat-free diets. I don't have a junky diet to begin with (I was never a junk-food person), so it's easy for me to switch it up. These days, I have about a 50% raw diet most of the time. That is, I eat a fair amount of raw fruit and have lots of huge salads. However, I put cooked beans on my salads and I do eat cooked grains and cooked veggies, too. Although I mostly have nuts raw, I do occasionally toast them and I do eat peanut butter (organic, natural, no additives). For me, a healthful mix of raw and cooked foods works well, and I feel better having some cooked foods (like beans, certain veggies, and grains) in my diet. Instead of committing to a singular style, why not mix it up a bit and see what feels best to you. You don't have to be "all" raw or "all" anything to be all vegan. There are so many fun ways to eat. Experiment . . . and most of all, enjoy! ~Jo
