First, have to say that most of my reading on the negative effects of soy come from articles over at Weston Price Foundation. Boiled down to the bottom line, their stance on soy foods is that only the fermented ones (miso, natto, tempeh) are "traditional" and safe to be eaten. Concerns they have with soy foods include osteoporosis, possible cancer links, possible dementia/alzheimers links. No, they aren't vegan; no they aren't raw; and no, I'm not eating that way these days. But there is some good information out there, IMO, however you might be eating. So my concerns about soy and soy-based foods are many and I have been avoiding them for quite awhile, even before I started 811rv.

I was working with a nutritionist for awhile (a diabetes counsellor) who was a big fan of TVP...something I wouldn't touch. She was also a fan of tofu and of soy milk.

When reviewing my latest blood work, which was good except for high triglycerides, my primary doctor tried to steer me into a "lower carb, higher protein" way of eating. I countered with "higher protein equals higher fat", at which point she started extolling the virtues of tofu and other soy foods.

I'm still thinking that the whole issue of elevated trigs will resolve itself as I continue to lose weight, increase exercise, and eliminate concentrated sugars such as dried fruits.
