80/10/10 (sometimes abrievated to "811rv") refers to Douglas Graham's book "The 80/10/10 Diet". Basically, it's a raw vegan diet where 80% of total calories come from carbs, mostly fresh, whole fruit; 10% (or less) come from protein; and 10% (or less) come from fat. Most of the day's supply of protein and fat are contained in the fruits and leafy greens, with maybe a small handful of nuts or a couple slices of avocado. Dr. Graham says that this is a more natural diet, the way our primate relatives (ancestors?) eat. The book gets into the science of what and why, as well as providing a week's worth of sample menus for each season of the year.

My experience has been that this is by far the easiest transition I have ever made in my diet. Hunger is not really an issue; if you get hungry just have some more fruit. I thought I might miss hot food in the Wisconsin winter (brrrr!), but stoking up on bananas and other tropical fruits gave me plenty of internal fortitude for snow shoveling and braving the blizzards. All-in-all, it just feels right.

Can't wait for warmer weather, farmer's markets, and more locally-grown foods.
