So, is this where the grown-ups hang out? Is there room here for me, too? I'm 59 years old (although I can't imagine when that happened!) and have been trying to follow a low-fat, raw vegan diet for about 4 months, now. Mostly sticking to it, with occassional lapses. Trying to concentrate on the food and the health benefits without getting all bogged down in some of the other issues (animal rights, natural hygene, etc). Looking for a place to share experiences, get advice, find support, and meet other adults.

Health issues I'm working on through a dietary approach are high cholesterol and triglycerides, high blood pressure, excess weight, and pre-diabetes. So far, I have lost 20-some pounds, lowered my FBG and A1C levels to normal (on the previous test), and been able to cut my hypertenion meds in half. I have another round of blood work scheduled for this Friday. I'm feeling a little bit (ok, a lot) nervous about it because my diet currently includes a lot of fresh, whole fruit. I've been reassured by people wh say that, as long as the fat content of my diet is kept really low, my body should be able to handle the sugars in the fruit just fine. I really want to believe that, so I hope the tests confirm that I haven't messed up my numbers.
