Good morning all, I just read the sad story on the Vegsource home page that one of my personal heroes and teachers, John Robbins, and his family were defrauded by Bernie Madoff and have lost all their life savings. I owe my transition to veganism entirely to John's groundbreaking book, "Diet for a New America," which I first read in 1999 and have referred to hundreds of times since. I cannot count how often I've given a copy to others eager to embark on the journey to a more compassionate and enlightened way of life. John's subsequent books, "May All Be Fed" and "Healthy at 100" were equally wonderful. They have lifted my spirits and kept me going over the years, and the debt of gratitude I owe to John can never be repaid (nor would he ask it to be). Although my partner is disabled, and we live quite frugally, I'm going to send a check to John and Deo, in the hope that it will help them during this most difficult time.
