Pat
if you go to Google and type in

dangers of Atkins diet

you will find many resources - from dietitians, doctors, Dean Ornish, etc. Pick the most mainstream you can find, and share those with him. (Because he's not going to be very interested in what a fruititarian/freaky hippy who-won't-eat-those-steaks weirdo will say. (I'm sure he makes exceptions for his loving mother, but you he tolerates because you're "Mom" and the others are those strange people.)

Anyway. If you have a really fast internet, Dean Ornish has a 25 minute video on there that I think you can watch, and that might have statistics etc.

I went on the Atkins diet 40 years ago for a while. It was a weight loss, but as much as I loved cheese at the time, it got really old when I couldn't eat many of the fresh peaches my dad brought home.

A judge I work with went on Atkins or similar for a while. He did lose weight, but he started having health problems, and I saw him yesterday and he is right back where he was a couple of years ago, so it didn't last. Most diets don't, but this one is not just part of the yoyo cycle of weight loss/regain - it also has health consequences. The other judge is on Diet for Life and she seems to be doing well with it even 4 years later.

I'm sure others will have better information than I do. I truly am mainly lost in homework when I'm not at work, but tried to go to bed early tonight and had a phone call from credit card company wanting me to sign up for their protection program. How many ways can I say no and still have them not listen to me!?! (If that paperwork comes in the mail I will be furious.) so here I am
