that my part in all this is miniscule--truly! It is her rescue and she has all the work and heartbreak and occasionally a triumph, when a dog is perfectly placed. I drive her on rare occasions, especially when she is particularly miserable (as opposed to her everyday miserable), as it is easier for her to ride than to drive at those times. Also, with gas prices what they are, it gives her a slight break in that way if I drive my car; also, her car has LOTS of miles on it, so it saves her adding a few more. And once in a while DH and I pick up a bag of dogfood for her. And that's it. Well, except for the moral support. She's just 43, but suffered from several falls while training horses when younger. The last fall was very serious, and she suffers from degenerative disc disease and stenosis and something else, which I can't think of right now. Although she is totally committed to the dogs, I don't know how much longer she can physically keep doing it. And I can't imagine what she will do if she has to give it up. If you want to know more, check out The Poodle Preserve dot org. Poodles (not the fru-fru ones) were her first love, but she soon started taking other dogs in need. Now, she concentrates more on small dogs, since they are easier to manage than the larger ones. Again, I must emphasize, my role is mostly that of friend--period.
