I started chewing & spitting about a year ago. I'm 5'3" and used to weigh about 103lbs - wanted to maintain (or lose a few more). I've been having personal issues and started to drink so I've actually gained weight. At my peak this summer I was up to 110lbs. I feel like I'm being very unhealthy between drinking, and chewing and spitting. I've started to cut back on the drinking and lost some weight. I hope to get back down to my weight from last year. I too exercise about 4 times a week, but skip dinner and I feel fine. I must agree that chewing & spitting is an expensive habit. On a "bad" day I will go out and buy like $20 worth of junk food and go thru it in one day. When I get stressed at work, I would close my door and chew & spit. I really don't know if this habit affects me negatively, and even if it does, I wouldn't know how to stop.
