i think you will most definitely lose those 5 pounds if you stop (or
cut way back) on c&s and don't replace it with actual binge-eating.
I have had a problem with c&s for over 12 years. I'm thin, but I was
always plagued by about 7-8 pounds that I hated. I was able to cut
my c&s back to almost nothing (a couple small things a day) and I
lost the extra weight in about 2 1/2 months. I noticed a difference
after about a week when my stomach stopped being bloated.

Glucose is abosorbed to some extent through the mouth, so
calories can be taken in that way. Also, you swallow more than you
think you do. I got sick one night around midnight & I had had a
c&s binge on chips earlier in the evening. Not to gross you out,
but I threw up chips & grease when I got sick.

I don't know how you normally eat, but I have always been a very
restrictive eater. When I decided to try to quit c&sing, I also
decided to allow myself to eat more healthy foods. I now eat
things I would not eat before (avocado, almonds, fish, etc) and I
have lost another couple pounds eating MORE food than before.
Because I am no longer hungry all the time, it is easier to face
down the temptation of c&s. I also find that allowing myself some
chocolate every day helps. Deprivation was a big trigger for me, I
think. I still have occasional bad days where I c&s binge, but
mostly, I hav broken the habit. It takes a long time. It's incredibly
addictive behavior.

So take a break from the c&s... or just cut way back... and see what
happens. Good luck!
