I feel like the c/s thing is almost like an addiction to food; instead of a cigarette break, you need a cookie and candy bar break. It is a habit that you grow accustomed to doing and naturally crave everyday. I have started taking vitamins everyday and when i feel myself getting a craving I make some tea, especially green tea, because it is good for me and replaces the sensation from c/s. Other times when I get a craving I just leave and try to occupy myself. If anyone is a good time manager, try to manage your time so that you dont end up with a few hours in the day doing absolutely nothing, because boredom could drive you to c/s. Try thinking of other things that you could do in your time, like yoga i think is really good for you and will get your mind off of food. Also, one thing that helped me is identifying what feelings trigger c/s, like for example from a "bad day", that way i know its coming and I can avoid doing it, instead of feeling empty and helpless and confused. And this may be hard because with c/s you always eat alone and isolate yourself, but eating is supposed to be a social thing. We are supposed to sit and eat in groups, so try not to eat "on the go" or alone, and give yourself time to sit and eat with others. When I first tried this for every meal I would return home with cravings, but after a while they go away. If you know what foods you typically crave, dont eliminate them completely from your diet, maybe give yourself a small peice of chocolate or cookie after a meal, and then just walk away and battle whatever further cravings for c/s you may have. One thing that really helps when craving something sweet is to pick up some fruit to snack on, at first it may be hard to replace something completely rich and unhealthy with fruit. But try chewing on some grapes or something and SWALLOW them. I feel like the sweetness in fruits helps a lot. I know how hard this is to overcome and the longer you continue this habit the harder it gets. I have managed to break my c/s cycles for months at a time, but repeatedly fall back into the habit. Each time I get better at overcoming it and I know anyone can overcome this, it just takes hard work and a drive to become a healthier person. Trust me, you will feel better about yourself when this is over and food becomes the last thing on your mind!!! There are so many better things to experience in life!! Even if you quit for a month and start to c/s again, just find the power to stop!! we all have it in us!! And also i have read some postings about people seeking advice who actually want to start this habit to help control their weight. Well my advice to those people is: DO NOT START CHEWING AND SPITTING OUT FOOD. It will take over your life. If you are just starting to do this STOP NOW. Okay and one more thing for those of you trying to overcome, carrying gum on you helps, when you are craving that muffin or candy bar, just wip out a peice of gum, pop it in your mouth, chew and walk away from whatever unhealthy thing you were about to c/s. Best luck to all!!!!
