Hi Leah, What made me quit was finding out how many cals you actually absorb so i figured what was the point in continuing spitting out food as a way to not put on weight because it doesnt work. The only way i lost weight doing that initially was because I cut out eating properly apart from at breakfast or if i had to eat with people and so i was only living on the cals i absorbed from the chewing/spitting. Even then, i didnt lose that much weight and the more and more i was c & s the more food i was doing it with and i started to put weight ON even though i was barely eating anything properly. I started my nutrition course and discovered just how much digestion begins in the mouth and realised why i was putting on weight from c and s. I figured i would tell myself i would just cut it out for a week and eat normally and see what happens. It was really hard but i managed a week and when i weighed myself i had actually lost 4 pounds that week from eating normally! I also looked so much better- my face wasnt all puffy and my glands werent sore and i felt so much better. I set myself another goal to go without c and s for a fortnight and i managed that too. That was over a year and a half ago and i havent chewed and spit since. I enjoy my food and exercise more which really helped me to quit as it is something to do when i am bored (one of the reasons I c and s). Try just quitting for a week and do some exercise instead. Eat properly for a week (but not junk, proper meals). Chew slowly and savour your food. See how much better you look and feel after a week.
