| Subject: | limiting foods b/c i binge on them -- how can i change my diet to make it healthy? |

i've heard it's appropriate to just not buy foods if you know they are binge triggers for you. so i decided to do that. i stopped buying sugary things. then i stopped buying most processed foods. then i limited foods that raise blood sugar a lot (e.g., potatoes). i limited my bread to yeast-free versions 1 slice/day. then i only ate it some days. now i feel like i have nothing left in my diet. i eat:
1-2 bowls of oat bran w/a few raisins & unsweetened soy milk
blender-full of green smoothie w/some combo of various greens, garlic, celery, cayenne, lemon
1-2 fruits (e.g., apple, orange, persimmon)
occasional steamed greens or other veggies
2 eggs/day (i know, it's cruel, but a long-standing injury made my chinese medical doc tell me it's either beef or eggs, and my constitution *has* improved so much since i made the change, even though i feel horribly guilty about the cruelty).
hummus w/tahini sometimes.
occasional veggie burger.
if i buy a jar of natual peanut butter i'll usually finish it w/in 1 week. then i eat more bread & apples. i eat it straight from the jar. then i don't buy it for a while b/c i know it's a trigger for me.
once in a great while i make a yummy quinoa celery carrot onion garlic tomato paste dish and eat the whole thing w/in 2 days.
the problem is, once i start eating, i never ever want to stop. i have to plan to go somewhere to stop! it does take me some time to get full, but i usually want to keep eating after that just b/c i love the taste of food!
i know my diet isn't really adequate, although calorie calculators suggest i need 1200-1400 calories/day (resting metabolic rate is just 850 calories). i'm a small person but my mouth/tongue like food just as much as a big person!
if i can't control my food intake then i end up eating other things. i exercise some (walking, a little jogging) to help with my injury, but i am largely sedentary as a result of my injury (i.e., no upper body usage at all).
i feel like anyone looking in from the outside would think i have an eating disorder, but i'm pretty sure a "normal" diet would push me over the calorie range for my size. i have curvy, stocky legs and can't really take any extra weight--i feel a lot of pressure from myself to stay slim. still, i want to be healthy.
any suggestions? thanks.
