| | Subject: | help for diabetic new to ETL | |
Date: | July 23, 2009 at 1:31 pm PST |
I recently read the ETL book and am very hopeful it will help get my diabetes (type 1/juvenile) under better control as well as losing a little weight. I've been on the plan for about a week now and am having a problem with low blood sugars, sometimes twice a day. Until I get my insulin dosage corrected for what I'm eating now this is going to be an issue and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Before I would drink a glass of juice (for the hit of sugar) and eat peanut butter crackers (for the protein) when my blood sugar dropped but now I'm at a loss. I've been 'cheating' by drinking juice and then eating more veggies or a cup of oatmeal for now but this probably isn't a great solution. A few years back I went through a spell where I had diabetic seizures from extreme lows due to medication I was on at the time, so they tend to panic me a bit and I eat much too much when they happen which is certainly not helpful when you're trying to control what you eat. Any ideas? Thank you for any help, I've really enjoyed reading back through some of the messages here.
