They are definitely legumes, however, Dr. Fuhrman has said they can
be counted a regular, non-starchy green vegetables. Even though he
has said this, I have never counted them this way. I have always
counted them just like beans since they are a legume. The only
difference is that they do have less calories per cup than other
legumes, which was probably Dr. F's rationale for saying that it was
okay to count them like a regular green vegetable. On the other
hand, they do have more calories per cup than most non-starchy
vegetables. They are sort of in-between as far as calories go.

On this one, I would advise that you do whatever works best for you
and makes the most sense to you. I just always figured it was a
legume that I could eat a bit more volume of than other legumes.
