Well, according to Dr. Fuhrman, the idea that fruit needs to be avoided by those with Candida is a myth completely unsupported by science, and which doesn't even make any logical sense. This is because Candida is just one of many organisms that inhabit the digestive tract and multiply after taking anti-biotics or with severe immune suppression. He says that candida (yeast) can exist in our digestive tract and we can even be allergic to them, however, unless we have an advanced stage of cancer, or AIDS, they do not enter the bloodstream in any significant amount to cause disease in people with normal immune function. He concludes that if you eat a low nutrient diet you decrease immune function and promote the growth of yeast in the gut. Conversely, if you eat a high nutrient diet you support proper immune function, and the growth of healthy microbes in the gut, and you don't worry about candida. Dr. F. gives the example that garbage attracts flies to congregate, but the flies did not cause the garbage. They are there because of the garbage, and if you remove the garbage the flies will go too. Finally, he also states that 99% of people who think Candida is the cause of their problem are wrong. I do not know why you would experience the problems with fruit that you have experienced. My husband, who is a doctor has suggested that if you are eating any processed foods along with the fruit, including pasta or flour products such as bread, that you may be confusing the real cause of the problem. He mentioned that with diabetics this is a common confusion. Dr. Fuhrman allows diabetics to eat a decent amount of fresh fruit, but does not allow them to have processed foods. This is because it is the things like pasta, bread, and all manner of processed foods that causes the real spike in blood sugar. My husband just asked me to clarify his point as follows: If you eat processed food during the same day that you also consumed fruit, even though hours apart in time, you may incorrectly blame the fruit for what the grain, processed foods, or even white potato is doing.
