Kidney Beans and Chickpeas would both count as beans. Beans are
generally considered a 'starchy' food. They contain good amounts
of protein as well as carbohydrates. Back when I was following
weight watchers vegetarian plan, we were told that we could count
beans either as a serving of protein, or a serving of bread (the
bread group was the name used for 'starchy' things).
Anyway, you really don't have to worry about protein at all. You
will get plenty following Eat to Live. Check out this video of an
amazing 72 year old vegan body builder. When asked what he
eats, he said beans, nuts, fruits, and vegetables. Thats the same
food I eat following Eat to Live! This guy sure doesn't look like he
is hurting for protein:
