My goals are fat loss while retaining most of the muscle I already have. I weight train and walk, sprint, and do spin class now. When time permits I like to ski and do martial arts.
Dr Fuhrman was a competitive skater while he was vegetarian, and that requires great strength and endurance. His diet will keep you sleek and strong like a fitness model, but if you want to look like a body builder, look elsewhere.
The only vegan I know who looks like a body builder is Mike Mahler (you can find him on the web). He takes protein powders and extra oils and trains heavilly.
I prefer Dr Fuhrman's diet because it is lower in protein and fat. A lot of people are caught up in a high protein mentality that I believe is being heavilly marketed by protein manufacturers. Plant protein is better than animal protein if you want to spare calcium, but you don't need more than 75 to 100 grams of protein a day for a great physique and superior health.
Question: Are you naturally lean? What is your percentage of body fat?
