Also, Dr. Fuhrman does base the amount of fat on the individual's needs. For an overweight person, he advises only 1 ounce of nuts or seeds or half an avocado per day in addition to a tabplespoon of ground flax seed. For extremely fit athletes, Dr. Fuhrman sees nothing wrong with 40% fat as long as it comes from whole foods. There is little difference between the two, especially MWL. I just think Dr. Fuhrman's is a little more up to date. The McDougall program would definitely be more economical, as non-starchy vegetables are more expensive than grains and starchy vegetables.
