Hey Puzzled,
I eat a medium sized potato with my other foods, such as a bean dish, cooked and raw veggies. I don't eat multiple potatoes at a sitting. I fill up on the vegetables and the potato is the last thing I eat during the meal. At that point, I'm approaching satiety and don't need to eat a huge mountain of potatoes.
Same goes for the grains. The portion is about a cup (or less) of whatever grain, and again, I eat that last.
My morning oatmeal is 1/3 cup rolled oats (not quick cooking) and I cook with 2/3 cup water. I have some soymilk and fruit as well.
I eat 3-5 fruit servings a day during the summer. I love fresh melon, peaches, berries, etc. A serving size is about 1/2-1 cup quantity, or one peach, etc. I don't measure, just eyeball it.
But I don't measure veggies, raw or cooked. They are so low calorie, you don't need to.
With only 10-15 pounds to lose, it will take you longer to shed them. Ramp up the activity, try some weight training - builds muscle. Muscle burns 70% more calories than fat.
Hope this helps!
