On the McDougall plan, I feel like I had to white nuckle it to lose weight. I tended to be hungry alot and would count calories to keep myself honest and make sure I didn't eat too much, and that I would lose weight. Switching to ETL really changed my relationship to food, allowing me to feel more relaxed, and to continue losing weight without climbing the walls.

You don't have to give up starches entirely, its just that you won't have them at every meal, and have every meal based around them. Maybe you will have beans at lunch time, and then a starchy vegetable or grain at dinner time. Both meals will have plenty of non-starchy veggies, both cooked and raw. Breakfast is typically fruit and a few nuts.

Best of luck.
