I'd highly recommend reading Eat to Live. I have Disease-Proof Your Child, but I've not done more than skim through it, so I really don't know what info is there. But ETL is full of eye-opening information.

If no one in your family has weight issues, you could skip the six week plan, which is geared to weight loss, and go right to The Lifetime Plan. The important thing is that the diet should consist of 90% unrefined plant foods. While it's vegetable based, you could add more whole grains and starchy vegetables than someone who is trying to lose weight. For those who want it, The Lifetime Plan also allows for 10% of calories to come from less nutrient dense foods, including olive oil, sweets and treats and animal products.

I see that the children's book has ten days of suggested recipes and menus. I've got to tell you, I've never used any of Dr. Fuhrman's (or anyone's) suggested recipes or menus. I've taken the principles and adapted my own recipes or new ones to fit.

In both Eat to Live and Cholesterol Protection for Life Dr. Fuhrman has given suggeted menu plans. They're slightly different:

From Eat to Live
Breakfast: fresh fruit
Lunch: salad, beans on top, and more fruit
Dinner: salad and two cooked vegetables (1 lb.), fruit dessert

From Cholesterol Protection for Life
Breakfast: fresh fruit and/or oatmeal with ground flax seeds
Lunch: salad, vegetable/bean soup, fresh fruit
Dinner: salad and two cooked vegetables/raw nuts, fruit dessert

The meal plan I use is slightly different, but still vegetable-based. If you'd like to know what I do, please email me at snckrs1949ATaolDOTcom and I'll send it to you. It's not quite what Fuhrman suggests, but it works for us, and it's still a very healthy way of eating.

Finally, here are some links you might find helpful and the three (I think) most important points to remember:

1. KISS (Keep It Simple, Sweetie)
2. The salad is the main dish.
3. It's vegetable based.
