Hi Lillian, I'm not Ridgerunner, but thought you'd want to hear from someone who did need to lose. I went on E2L to lose weight and to improve health, though I'm fairly healthy anyway. I've no diseases at this point and I come from hearty stock (i.e., good genes). I'm a 48 year old female who wanted to lose 25 lbs I'd gained since college. I lost 20 lbs on E2L in about 4 months. I lost a bit faster the first few weeks and a bit slower after that. People who have more to lose, like yourself, will likely lose faster at first, which will keep you motivated. It's such a healthy way to eat. I suggest you follow E2L, rather than the grain-heavy McDougall program, if you want to maximize your loss and your health. I never felt better than when I was following E2L's 6-week plan (the start of the journey) and had shed some major weight! But either program would do the job and MCDougall is highly respected. If you go on the E2L program, read the book first to understand the logic behind the program and what's allowable to eat. Do not skimp on the portions either. People have written on this site that they've lost 5 or more pounds per week on E2L,when they were already at a low weight. When questioned about their eating further, they invariably skimped on the program portions, eating 2 fruits instead of 4 per day, etc. This was their choice, of course. But skimping will set the typical female up for binging later. Try to eat by the perscribed program, and as Dr. F says, you can't fail. Good luck!
