I am a 49 year old male, 5' 7" and I currently weigh 140. I've never really been overweight - In fact I actually gained weight when I adopted the E2L program (I was a bit too thin before). I chose this plan not to lose weight, but to improve my health. I had an "awakening" of sorts back in 2003 when I read "Eat to Live" and realized that my body is indeed a temple and it deserves better than I was giving it before. The beauty of the plan is that when you eat predominantly high nutrient density foods, your body automatically assumes its optimal weight at the same time your health is being restored. If you have weight to lose, the optimal nutrition of Dr Fuhrman's plan is by far the quickest and healthiest way to lose it. However, it is not easy! In these modern times, we are surrounded by all sorts of super rich foods designed to please the palate. Unfortunately, just about everyone has become hooked (i.e. physically addicted) to these foods, and healthy food tastes bland in comparison. So it takes a strong will and quite a bit of determination to make it past the unpleasant physical and psychological withdraw symptoms that occur when you stop eating the rich foods. And while you're losing the weight, old toxins that were hiding in the fat stores are released which can result in additional unpleasant detoxification symptoms. Initially, many people actually feel worse when they improve ther diet. However, once you get past the detox/withdrawl phase, your taste buds become more sensitive to the subtler (and wonderful) flavors of natural, unsalted, unsweetened plant foods. (Sometimes you have to feel worse before you can feel better.) But your health will undoubtedly be the better for it! I highly recommend reading "Eat to Live". (If you haven't already read the book review article here at VegSource, please do. Here's a link: http://www.vegsource.com/articles2/fuhrman_eat_review.htm) Good luck to you Lillian!
