I'm in Victoria -- and yes, it is beautiful in the summertime, but we have to endure these long, gray, rainy winters in between the summers. ;-)

With regard to grains, the only things I have tried have been wheat (in the form of bread and baked goods), spelt (bread), brown rice pasta, and oats (oatmeal). I simply cannot tolerate wheat or spelt breads, except I seem to be okay with Nature's Path Manna Bread (sprouted wheat) in small amounts. Oatmeal doesn't produce the same reaction as wheat or spelt, but it does make me tired and mucousy. I had a bad experience with quinoa not too long ago (ate some and then got sick...the two weren't related, but the timing has made me swear off quinoa for a bit).

I don't really enjoy the taste of sprouted beans, and the cooked ones cause all kinds of digestive difficulty. I just seem to do best eating simple, easy, mostly raw foods. I'm okay with steamed broccoli and caulifower, lightly cooked greens, and sometimes steamed sweet potatoes. The trick for me seems to be not eating cooked foods every day, and when I do eat them, to eat them in very small quantities.

Good luck to you and your family in your transition -- I hope it will be a smooth one for you. It must be nice to have such supportive family members in your quest for optimal health! :-)
