I have been raw off and on for about 2 years now. I say off and on because of the deprive/binge cycles I mentioned. I have been trying to transition back to about 80% raw (based on calories) for almost a month, and I have to admit, there are MANY times when I don't feel great.
I'm trying to find cooked foods that don't zap my energy, produce mucous, or cause my migraines to come back. All of those things improved on a raw diet, and though I'd like to stay high raw, for now I need to find "safe" cooked foods to eat in small quantities.
I find that beans and bean products do NOT sit well, and I can't do wheat at all. I'm trying to gradually add more beans since they're part of the Fuhrman plan, which I followed with success before going raw, but they just aren't digesting well. I'm also experimenting with sprouted wheat breads (Nature's Path Manna Bread, for example) in small amounts. I seem to do okay with lightly cooked starches (white and sweet potatoes) as long as I don't eat too much of them, but grains in general are still a no-go. Even gluten-free bread products make me tired, produce mucous, and give me headaches. I think sprouted grains in small amounts might be okay, though.
It's good to know that other people are having the same types of experiences. It's kind of a strange feeling trying to add back some cooked food. Even though, intellectually, I think it's the most sane thing for me to do, I don't physically feel very good. But then again, I used to feel MUCH worse after a gross binge brought on by too regimented of a raw diet.
Comments, advice, anecdotes -- they're all appreciated. :)
