After being picture perfect on Dr. F's plan, following it to the letter for months, and being JUST 3 lbs from my weight goal, I blew it BIG time for 2 weeks! Well, I didn't eat meat at least, as I've been a vegetarian for a long time. Still, just read this...
It all started with a delicious Indian dinner: I just couldn't refuse the sag kofta (spinach, cream, and veggie balls) and poori (FRIED whole wheat bread). Then, I loved this Indian dinner so much (one of my ethnic foods) I ate another 2 Indian dinners that week. Yum; not terrible, but not on plan. That would have been okay, but then...
That taste of poori (whole wheat) triggered several carb splurges, after only eating 1 or less carb servings per day. I had two whole packages of Newman's Spelt Pretzels. God they're good, and I hope to work them into the program as my carb serving.
Later that week and next, I had three whole bags of Garden of Eatin' Black Bean Chips. Can't control those, so they won't be worked into the plan!
Meanwhile, once my food addiction got set in motion, I just had to try Ben & Jerry's Karmal Sutra ice cream (with a carmel core!) and ate the whole pint. Also had to try a special edition of Dreyers ice cream I'd read about--Girl Scouts Samoas ice cream. Luckily I ate about a pint's worth of the 1/2 gallon and threw the rest away. Though both ice creams were delicious, I felt disgusting afterwards. Dairy is a definite gonner for me for a long time! I hardly ever ate full fat icecream, even before Dr. F's program, so I'll have no problem avoiding it post-binge.
Also on the debauchery list for the two weeks were 2 boxes of carmels (I'm a recovering candy addict and one of my favorite little books is "Candy Freak"); a Russel Stover bag of chocolates; numerous Dove dark chocolate hearts for VDay; and dare-I-say, about 10 heart-shaped chocolate marshmallow hearts (fairly large size).
All this was capped off with a huge order of Nathan's thick fries.
Well, it's not pretty. Just about every god-awful thing you can eat to age yourself, get cancer, get heart disease, etc. I ate. I'm back on the plan now with intentions of finding a way to minimize splurges, binges, and lapses. That's a real challenge for me. This does seem very much like an alcoholic going on an alcohol binge, doesn't it?
I won't EVEN get on the scale for a week or two. I gain weight much faster than I lose it. I'll bet this two week binge set me back 6-8 lbs!!!
Any sympathy or empathy out there? After this afternoon, I won't be back on this site until next week. By then, I hope to read some inspiring, encouraging or otherwise interesting responses. If not, it sure did feel good to confess! And, I have to say, I do love Dr. F.'s program enough to be glad I'm back on it!
