I have read (proposed by Dr. Neal Barnard) about using the 'power of 10': Take your ideal weight, multiply by 10 (so it's not really to the POWER of 10, but no matter) and that totals the number of calories you should get, MINIMUM, a day. So, if my ideal/natural lean body weight is 125, I'd never want to eat less than 1,250 calories a day. Extra activity, etc, will probably mean you'll need a bit more, but hunger will help guide that.
