Hi Jeff,

RE: sugar. For sweetening you could use dates. Up to you, of course. But getting off of all refined food -- sugar being right at the top -- smashed my craving problem, and that was a top priority for me. I want food to just be food, not a preoccupation.

RE: fats. Yep, they do say that about fat. I was a real 'fat phobic' and avoided all fats as much as I could (I started on McDougall who advocates no added fat). I kept getting cravings and "the hungries" and sometimes felt like I was bingeing. I decided to add back in *a little* dietary fat in the healthy form of nuts. After about a week or so of doing this, my pants were noticeably looser, my energy level felt more even and solid, and I lost the preoccupation with food that kept pestering me.

Bottom line, I started giving my body what it needed to do perform its functioning well so it quit bugging me to eat!

My weight loss is still going down, particularly now that I don't have "dam breaking" eating -- where I've deprived as long as I can and then suddenly can't take it anymore. Bingeing is very unhealthy!

HTH,
Savannah
