Personally, I have never heard anything bad about basil except that it is expensive!! However, I have heard "bad" things about *many* other food-related issues - from teflon to garlic. After years of hearing such things, I now take most of them with a grain of salt, unless I see good solid evidence repeated in several reputable sources (i.e. dairy - that's an open-and-shut case, to me). I assure you, I still eat potatoes, garlic, mushrooms, onions, strawberries, iceberg lettuce (very occasionally, it's not my preference), black pepper, flax seeds, sprouts (when I can get them), and soy. All of which I've *heard* bad things about. I personally suspect you would be safe with basil. And if I had access to enough of it to make pesto, I'd be scarfing it! RS
