Hi Paige,
I call it, "McDougalling to Live". After McDougalling for ~a year and a half I switched to E2L. I wanted a more nutrient dense diet and eating a diet with a base of starch didn't make sense to me in that regard. And I was getting a lot of cravings, too.
After the time being on McD I had burned out on most starches -- don't care much for rice or pasta and such anymore.
But anyway, you could move to E2L more gradually with a "McDougall to Live" approach just by adding a bit more starch. So if you make rice and veggies, have a bit more rice than E2L calls for, but a bit less than you might have had previously on McD. Instead of the pound of salad and 1 cup sweet potatoes, you could have 1/2 - 2/3 pound salad and 1 1/2 cup sweet potatoes. Just play with the amounts. That's what I have done when I go through periods of wanting potatoes (the only starch I still really enjoy).
Hope that helps. Just be flexible, while nudging toward veggies. It helped me to make a deal with myself where I ate the salad/veggies first, then had the starch after.
Savannah
