Dr Fuhrman's "Gentle Care" multi-supplement is low in calcium because his diet plan dramatically reduces the leeching of calcium from the body, which is the real cause of bone loss disorders. Adding extra calcium is not the solution to osteoporosis - rather, reducing the factors that cause you to lose calcium is the real answer - i.e. reduce your intake of sodium and eliminate your intake of caffeine, animal protein, high dose vitamin A supplements, tobacco and sugar. Also, his diet plan includes lots of dark leafy greens which are a rich source of calcium. Thus, there is no need for significant supplementation of calcium. However, Vitamin D is another issue. Strong bones require this "Sunshine Vitamin" that many people are deficient in. His supplement does provide a good 100% dose of Vit D which aids in calcium absorbtion. His "Gentle Care" is just that. Its conservatively designed to provide only the important vitamins in just the right amounts to supplement a healthy diet.
