Here's my two cents worth...

A.) Nothing wrong with eating fruit!
B.) Nothing wrong with veg soup with Spinach!
C.) Dying is a part of living. We all go sometime!

Regarding the depression and nutrition... I have pretty much cured my life-long depression (and asthma), by following Dr F's high nutrition diet. For me, one of the secrets is getting enough Omega-3 fats (EPA and DHA): Be sure to get plenty! I eat from 1 to 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseeds every day and I also supplement with DHA. (Fish oil works but I'm vegan so I don't take that. I get Dr Fuhrman's vegan DHA supplements instead.) This has made all the difference in the world for me. But if the depression gets bad, please do go see a doctor because the modern drugs do work wonders and can help get folks through particularly dark times.

About your Mom... One of my best friends recently lost both her Mother and Father, one right after the other in a one month period (and they were all very close). This was a couple years ago. She is a nurse and is very aware of the physiology and phases of the grieving process. Intelligently, she went to monthly group grieving counseling sessions which she says helped her out a lot (and her insurance covered the cost). But, be aware that it will take some time. However, one of the worse things you could do is to become malnourished - but it sounds like you're eating pretty darn healthy - just not a whole heck of a lot (and that's ok, too. In my books, "if you're not hungry, don't eat"). And you are in luck - Grapefruits are absolutely great right now! But you might want to add just a wee bit more GREENS and BEANS. Just like fruit, they are HAPPY FOODS! (and after all, you are what you eat)!

Wish you well! - rr
