My dad had a very bad case of gout for almost one year. The main "natural recommendation" was to eat lots of unsweetened frozen cherries, natural cherries, or cherry juice. You may want to give it a try. It helped him a bit. Also, my dad's problem stopped once I got him to stop eating his whole grain rye bread. I had read in numerous articles that whole grains can sometimes trigger a gout attack, unlike the heavy meat diet we mostly hear about. When he stopped using the freshly baked whole grain rye, his gout went away. I still can't believe it myself, but it did. This would all fit in well with Dr. F's program: you can certainly eat cherries on his program AND he does limit the number of whole grain servings you eat. My dad substituted other grains-starches, such as cornmeal, corn, potatos and rice and did find. You're allowed one of these servings on the 6-week plan
