You'll likely have others respond to you with other opinions. From the zillions of nutrional articles I've read as well as Dr. F's book, I would say yes, you are eating too little for the following reasons:
1) E2L is based on getting your nutrition, proteins, carbs, etc., as well as phytochemicals from the mix of foods recommended. If you leave out a whole group--raw veggies for instance--you are "undernourished" by the plan.
2) You are cheating yourself of other vitamins and minerals and phytochemicals that can be found in the "OK" foods left out of your daily eating plan.
This could mean the protection you've sought under the plan...the wellness...could be comprimised. E2L is about nutritional excellence--do just part of the plan and you will be nutritionally inferior.
3) Eating so few calories will slow your metabolism down to where it would get used to that small amount, say 700 calories. If you then bump up to 1200-1500 calories (still low by most standards but what you get on Dr. F's program) you will gain weight more rapidly than you'd like. Dr. F discusses that a slow metabolism isn't a bad thing for longevity. But if your body gets used to too few calories, watch out--expect a big rebound in weight if you introduce more food soon.
I'd suggest an easy fix: Reduce your intake of citrus fruits to 4 servings a day (grapefruits + clementines). Substitute with veggies, nuts and a whole grain/potato and other foods you are missing on E2L. Maybe follow the 6-week plan, which is lighter than the life plan. Good luck to you!
