but trust me you do not know about familial hypercholesterolemia. A person with FH can run for hours a day and eat nothing but salads and still have a cholesterol level of over 300. Diet and exercise work for everything else, I'm convinced of that, but it just isn't enough for FH. I think my HDL of 78 is more important than my LDL of 303 or my total cholesterol of 399. The ratio, from all of what I've read, seems to be most important. Right now my ratio of total/HDL is 5.11, which isn't fantastic, but isn't bad either. I turned 49 yesterday - if I'm still posting here in 10 or 20 years, you'll know I was right. If you never see a post from me again, you'll know I was wrong.

I think there are many things important to good health. To sum up everything with one test, cholesterol level, I think is trying to simplify a complex equation.
