It chews the food even better than you can, releasing more of those wonderful phytochemical nutrients that are locked inside the tough-to-digest cellulose/fiber cell walls. Yes, the fiber nutrient component is probably compromised by blending, but getting enough fiber on the "Eat to Live" plan is NOT an issue. We get TONS of fiber, and losing some of it to the blender is no problem at all.

For me, the blender is a life-saver, because I, too, have a hard time gagging down 1 lb of raw veggies every day. With my Vitamix, I can do it easily, and I save a LOT of "chewing time". My morning power-green-smoothie is how I get a super-nutritious, (and quick) start on my day. Here is a typical example (I change the fruit selection depending on whats handy in the fridge)...

  • 1 Orange
  • 1 Pear
  • 1/2 Lemon
  • 1/2 cup Pineapple
  • 1/2 cup Melon
  • 2 oz Pomegranate juice
  • 1 tbsp ground Flaxseed
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1/2 lb fresh Spinach
Start with the juiciest fruits at the bottom to get the mixture mixing. Then add the frozen fruits, then lastly, add the GIANT HANDFUL OF SPINACH! - it goes down real easy!
