The most expensive part of joining Dr. Fuhrman's site is the first 6 weeks, which costs $34.95, but the price includes an electronic version of the Eat To Live book. After the first 6 weeks, it is 7.95 per month. For me it was well worth it. You can check out all the details of what is included at his website.

I don't know about the other fruits and juices you mentioned, its just that I happen to know about this magical property of carrots. The carrot pineapple drink I mentioned would actually be quite a bit different than the carrot apple juice that you tried. First off, my drink is made from the whole veggies and fruit, so it includes the fiber, and not just the juice. It is much better to stick to whole foods when you are trying to lose weight. There have been studies where they have fed people an equal amount of calories of either juice or whole fruit prior to a meal, and they have found that the people who drink the juice will eat just as many calories at a meal as if they'd had nothing, while the people who are given whole fruit prior to a meal will tend to reduce the amount of calories they would have otherwise eaten at the meal by the amount of calories found in the whole fruit. If I'm not mistaken, this is something that Dr. Barnard talked about in the book "Breaking the Food Seduction". Anyway... I don't think I would have been real crazy about the carrot apple juice either. Maybe you will like the carrot pineapple drink. Can't hurt to try something new. Right ? Perhaps you will even enjoy it, and sneaking some extra raw veggies in, in a different sort of form might even help you feel full.

As far as the rice goes, remember, it is okay to have 1 cup of starchy vegetable or grain per day. To me, the important thing is to stick to whole grains, like brown rice rather than white rice. When I was doing the 6-week plan, I would do fruits and nuts at breakfast, include a cup of beans at lunchtime (either on my salad, or I'd have a bean and vegetable type soup), and then at dinner I'd have my cup of starchy vegetable or grain, along with some non-starchy cooked veggies, and a salad. Also, I ate fruit for dessert both at lunch and dinner. I ate an ounce of nuts per day. Now I eat more of the starches and nuts than before, but thats because I don't need to lose any more weight, and I'm in maintenance mode now.

One thing I have found is that tastes really do change. It takes more than 3 days, but see if you can stick with this long enough to start seeing some positive changes. That is what will keep you going. Eventually you should start having more energy, losing weight, and even enjoying real food better than processed stuff. Hang in there. We are all rooting for you.
