College Vegan, As far as the constipation goes, I'm not really sure why you have it, but my husband and I find that the carrot citrus cocktails we have for breakfast tend to be stimulating and get things moving rather quickly, so to speak. Other people apparently have found carrots or carrot juice to have the same effect on them. Here is how we make the carrot citrus cocktail recipe: 6 ounces baby carrots, 1/8 of a lemon (w/peel), 1 can crushed pineapple, 2 cups of ice. Blend all of the above in vitamix, first quickly turning from speed 1 to 10, and then flip to high speed for 1 minute. You could try this in a blender if you don't have a vitamix. Not only is this a good way to avoid the constipation problem, you might also find that its a good way to get in some raw veggies. Carrot and pineapple is a nice combo, and the pineapple will sweeten things up for you. As someone who has been known to stuff herself on this diet while I was losing weight (I have lost all my weight now) I sure don't like having you feel like you are starving yourself ! If it were me, I certainly wouldn't eat just fruit for breakfast, as that never worked for me either. It does sound like you've been having to deal with some bad toxic hunger symptoms between breakfast and lunch, and if I were you I would have at least a half an ounce of raw unsalted nuts with my fruit in the morning, and see if that can help you deal with things a little better. Fruit and Nuts make a good breakfast. Beans are nice to include at lunch time to help hold you off until dinner. In terms of the more filling meals I can think of, I'd have to include the Vindaloo Vegetables that Susan V and I both like so much. It is filling because it has beans along with a lot of cooked vegetables. Vegetables do cook down a lot, and generally speaking, anytime you can cook or blend up vegetables, it makes it easier to get down a larger quantity than you could possibly chew away at raw and unblended, and the more vegetables you eat, the better for your weight loss and your feeling of fullness. If you think the raw veggies will taste good to you with some sort of creamy dressing, then check out my Tuesday Flog where I talk about the salad dressing that I made. My husband and I both really love it. If you find that your raw veggies have tasted bitter, perhaps you could get some sweeter ones, like baby carrots, which tend to be consistently sweeter than other carrots. For salad greens, stay away from the ones that tend to be more bitter, and try something like Romaine lettuce. Sometimes, when you buy conventional rather than organic, you will find the vegetables to be more bitter as well. I guess those pesticides must lend a bittter flavor ! Sometimes you can get some incredibly sweet cherry tomatoes or grape tomatoes, and they are always nice to munch on or throw in your salad. Sometimes they really make the salad. If you are truly determined that this time you will succeed in making meaningful long term changes, and that failure is not going to be an option, then I would like to suggest that if there is any chance that the level of support you get here at vegsource won't cut it, before you throw in the towel, consider joining Dr. Fuhrman's website so that you can get his expert advice too. I know it costs some money, but he is the one who best knows how to make this diet-style work for people, and I'm sure he has heard every last problem that people run into, and if anyone has a solution to make this work for you, I think he would be the one. Just my humble opinion. I don't want to see you give up. I know you are going through a tough time, but I think that if you stick this out you will be feeling much better, and will be happy that you stuck it out.
